The Corsair Neutron Series GTX solid-state drive stands out from the pack with its unique controller and impressive write speeds. This Corsair solid-state drive utilizes a Link_A_Media, or LAMD, controller, and is RoHS compliant. It also supports S.M.A.R.T. and TRIM, and features an onboard cache of up to 128MB. Installing the Corsair Neutron Series GTX SSD is simple too. Although this is a 2.5-inch drive, Corsair ships the device with a 3.5-inch mounting kit, allowing it to fit into just about any rig.
The LAMD controller under the hood of this solid-state drive allows it to achieve impressive read and write speeds, along with the ability to access your data in 0.1 milliseconds or less. The Corsair Neutron Series GTX can achieve sequential read speeds of up to 550MB/s, and sequential write speeds of up to 470MB/s. The random write speed is equally impressive on this unit, topping out at 95,000 IOPS, or input operations per second.
The Corsair Neutron Series GTX SSD consumes a little more power than a typical solid-state drive, at 4.6W while active. However, this is still not enough to make a noticeable dent in your power supply. Solid-state drives have a significant advantage over traditional hard disk drives because they require much less power to function properly. This SSD also features shock resistance up to 1500G, and a two million hour lifespan – one of the longest among the solid-state drives we reviewed.
Capacity options for the Corsair Neutron Series GTX are limited. You can choose between 120, 240 and 480GB capacity models. These are good options, but the price for the largest capacity model of this drive may scare you away. Furthermore, it would be nice to see an option smaller than 120GB, especially if don't plan to use this SSD as a data storage drive.
Corsair offers telephone and email support to its customers. Unfortunately, to access these features, you must first register on the Corsair website. This is a minor inconvenience, but it is one worth pointing out because many competing manufacturers don't require this to access their technical support features. There is a helpful FAQs section on the Corsair website, along with a community forum that addresses concerns from fellow Corsair SSD buyers. You can also access an archive of Corsair SSD firmware updates via the community forum.
